Dr. Schulte is the Dean of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Bundeswehr University Munich in Germany. Dr. Schulte was educated as aerospace engineer and received his doctor of engineering in 1996. After a seven year industry experience as systems engineer and project manager at the Munich ESG company he became faculty member at the aerospace science department of UBM in 2002, and head of the Institute of Flight Systems in 2008. Prof Schulte is member of the scientific advisory board of the Fraunhofer Institute of Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics. In 2010 he was visiting Professor at the Humans and Automation Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Arnfinn Oksavik

Arnfinn Oksavik is Managing Director at NTNU Ocean Training AS, a subsidiary of Norwegian University of Science and Engineering (NTNU) located in Aalesund, Norway. He has an honours degree in Applied Physics from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. His work experience is mainly from the maritime industry: the shipyard and equipment manufacturer Ulstein Group as development manager and director, the satellite communications provider Inmarsat where he has held positions as information manager and marketing manager. In his current position, Mr Oksavik has been in charge of training 1000’s of maritime professionals and relating to hundreds of maritime crewing departments. Due to the decline in the offshore supply market with lay-up of vessels and pressure on costs, assessment of competence has become a hot topic among ship owners.

Dr Thomas Porathe is professor of interaction design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. He is specialising in maritime human factors and design of maritime information systems. He has been working with e-Navigation since 2006 in EU-projects like BLAST, EfficienSea, MONALISA, ACCSEAS and the unmanned ship project MUNIN. He is vice-chair in the Maritime Service Portfolios working group in IALA’s e-Navigation committee.

Jørgen Ernstsen is a stipendiary in Nautical Operations at the University College of Southeast Norway. He is currently researching maritime performance assessment with a goal to automate and reduce subjective bias. He has a M.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Oslo and has previous experience with operational psychology within police and emergency rescue. Mr. Ernstsen worked within the oil and gas industry at Aker Solutions before starting his PhD.

Linda J. Sørensen, PhD, is a human factors professional with BW Fleet Management, working on operational HF and safety issues as well as organizational development to set industry safety leadership standards. Linda has 8 years human factors experience spanning research at HBV (Research Fellow) and University of Southampton (Research Assistant) as well as practitioner experience from the National Physical Laboratory, Perseus GST and Lloyd’s Register Consulting. Linda achieved her PhD at the University of Southampton (2013) on “Distributed Situation Awareness: Experimental Studies into Teamwork” and has published a range of papers on topics such as command and control, team performance and distributed situation awareness. Linda remains keenly interested in problems faced by individuals and teams in complex operational environments.

Tareq Ahram, Phd

Tareq Ahram, PhD, is the lead scientist and research manager working at the Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (IASE) at the University of Central Florida. He holds a Master of Science degree in Human Engineering from the University of Central Florida, Master of Science degree in Engineering Management (2004) and Ph.D. (2008) in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida with specialization in Human Systems Integration and large-scale information retrieval systems optimization (search algorithms). Dr. Ahram has served as an invited speaker at several Systems Engineering, design and human systems integration research meetings and workshops and served as program committee member and special speaker at the Department of Defense Human Systems Integration and Human Factors Engineering Technical Advisory Group- meeting 62, 63, and 64 held at NASA Ames – Human Systems Integration Division (DOD TAG). Dr. Ahram received the 2009 U.S. Exceptional Research Scientist Award and the 2013, 2014 IBM Research Faculty Award to support cutting-edge scientific research in data modeling and analytics. Dr. Ahram is currently working on multiple research projects including a research project funded by the United States Office of Naval Research on modeling human performance and total ownership cost.

Annette Kluge, PhD

Annette Kluge is a professor at Work and Organizational Psychology in Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where she is also the chair of Industrial, Organizational and Business Psychology, Faculty of Psychology. Prof. Kluge is leading a research team on Human Factors. Her research team is focused on Organizational safety concepts, training: skill acquisition and retention, safety related rule violations and organizational learning from errors. Before joining Ruhr-Universität Bochum, she was full professor at in Business and Organizational Psychology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. She is also in Counseling Board of the Reactor Safety Commission working for the Federal Ministry for the Environment and editor of several well knowns HF Journals.

Karsten Haegg

Karsten Haegg is Chief Instructor for the Maritime department at Maersk Training Svendborg with direct responsibility for the development and delivery of maritime courses. He went to sea as apprentice with A.P. Moller-Maersk at the age of 16 and finished his Master’s degree in 1989. He has since then sailed with various vessel types: Tankers – LPG Carriers – Container vessels – Feeder Container vessels – Ferries and Offshore vessels. For 2 years he worked with a Marine Insurance company with underwriting and claims. The past 17 years has been spent in the Marine Offshore world as navigating officer and captain, as well as working at Maersk training as Instructor, Lead Instructor and now Chief Instructor. In between periods at Maersk Training he has gained practical experience as Newbuilding superintendent, Fleet auditor and company representative.

Dr. Scott MacKinnon is a professor of Human Factors at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and a research associate at several international universities. His research has three primary foci: (a) health, safety, and survival in maritime and offshore gas and oil industries; (b) understanding how simulation and artificial intelligence can be used to acquire skill; and (c) knowledge translation in occupational health and safety. Dr. MacKinnon holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Cape Town.

Salman Nazir is an Associate Professor at University College of Southeast, Norway. He received his Masters and PhD in Chemical Engineering (focus on System Engineering and Human Factors) from Hanyang University, South Korea, and Politecnico di Milano, Italy, respectively. He is mainly focused on Human Factors research. His current research topics are: Effective training methods, performance assessment, training transferability and evaluation. He was awarded with Cum Laude (outstanding honor) with the title of his PhD. He is a co-chair of affiliated conference of Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE) and also leading the research group: Training and Assessment Research Group (TARG).

Steven Mallam is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at University College of Southeast Norway, Faculty of Technology and Maritime Sciences. Steven received his PhD in Maritime Human Factors from Chalmers University of Technology, with his research focusing on the application of human-centered design and participatory approaches in naval architecture and engineering processes. Steven’s primary research interests involve the analysis and optimization of end-users and their work processes within complex socio-technical systems. Particularly, he is interested in utilizing advanced technologies to enhance knowledge mobilization and pedagogics of individuals and teams. Steven has experience performing Human Factors and Ergonomics research in interdisciplinary projects within a variety of industries, including maritime transport, commercial fishing, offshore oil and gas, and aviation.

Dr. Margareta Lützhöft is a master mariner, trained at Kalmar Maritime Academy in Sweden. After leaving the sea, she studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive science and a Master’s in Computer Science. In 2004 she received a PhD in Human-Machine Interaction. Presently she holds a position as Professor in the MarSafe group at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. Her research interests include human-centered design and the effects of new technology.

Arnulf S. Schueffler is a PhD student and researcher at the chair of Work and Organizational Psychology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. He holds degrees in Business Psychology and in Management & Economics. His current research interests are change management from a human, organizational and technical perspective. From the organizational perspective he focuses on teams and their success factors, from the technical view he focuses on mixed reality solutions to support efficient team work. Arnulf Schueffler is currently working on research projects including a research project on intentional forgetting in teams. He additionally has run his own consultancy since 20 years.
