TARG, being an important part of the Department of Maritime Operations (IMA) at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), envisioned the innovative potential of the best simulator practices in maritime education.

Keeping the vision to be the best in simulator training in maritime education, TARG was vested by USN to respond to the 2019 call for the Centres for Excellence in Education (SFU), managed by the Directorate for Internationalization and Quality Development in Higher Education (DIKU).

SFU status is awarded to Norwegian educational environments that demonstrate outstanding quality and innovative practices with firm plans for further development and innovation in education. SFU’s goal is the long-term enhancement of educational practice and quality in the Norwegian higher education sector. Awardees receive 4-8M NOK per year during the SFU tenure of five years with the possibility of a further five-year extension.

On March 15th, MARKOM partners’ came together to discuss the vision, mission and the application framework for SFU at Gardermoen. The SFU application process is underway as a part of MARKOM 2020 project with the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) leading the consortium of four institutes, including NTNU, UiT and HVL.
