TARG is proud to share that Jørgen Ernstsen, a distinguished member of the team has successfully defended his PhD thesis on the topic of “Reducing the subjective impact in maritime simulator assessment: A performance assessment tool for maritime pilotage operations” at USN.
PhD defence program was conducted online and over 60 attendees participated along with the assessment committee comprising Prof. Jon Ivar Håvold, NTNU; Dr. Kristine Vedal Størkersen, NTNU and Prof. Anne Haugen Gausdal, USN. The supervisor team included Prof. Salman Nazir, USN; Prof. Kjell-Ivar Øvergård, USN; Assoc. Prof. Bjarte Knappen Røed, USN; Assoc. Prof. Bjørn-Morten Batalden, UiT. Morten Christian Melaaen, the dean of Faculty of Technology, Science and Maritime Sciences at USN presided over the ceremony. Other participants including all department leaders and faculty members attended the ceremony virtually.
Jørgen is the very first PhD candidate of the joint degree program, from department of maritime operations, in Nautical Operations, a collaboration among The Arctic University of Norway (UiT), University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) under the MARKOM2020 project.

Salman Nazir, the main supervisor congratulated Jørgen for his PhD work and expressed his gratitude to all the colleagues and collaborators from academia and industry for their continuous help and support towards this project.
