Salman Nazir is a Professor of Training and Assessment at the Department of Maritime Operations (IMA) in the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), also responsible as the Head of Training and Assessment Research Group (TARG). He obtained his Master from Hanyang University, South Korea and a PhD Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), Italy.

Later on, Salman started working as Post-Doc at POLIMI, shortly moving to the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) where he became an Associate Professor in 2015. During his leadership in Training and Assessment Research Group (TARG), Salman has won several national and international grants from different funding sources including the Research Council of Norway,  EU Horizon 2020, MARKOM2020, German Academic Exchange Service DAAD and Oslo Fjord Fund on the topics related to Training and Performance Improvement with the state of art technologies and appropriate pedagogical interventions in training for Complex Socio-Technical Systems in the Maritime Domain. One of the most recent projects under his scientific leadership, Centre of Excellence in Maritime Simulator Training and Assessment (COAST), administered by DIKU (Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education) bore success for USN as one of 12 Centre of Excellence (SFU) in Norway.

As part of his academic contribution, he has authored and co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed articles on international journals and presently is the Chair of the International Conference on Human Factors in Management and Leadership for Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE) for several years now. Similarly, Salman is a member of the scientific boards of International Symposium of Occupational Safety and Hygiene (Sho2016), International Conference on Safety and Environment in the Process & Power Industry (CISAP), and International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE 2016). He was also invited by the Executive Committee as the Session Chair of the Social Impact Session at the Annual General Meeting (AGA) of the International Association of Maritime Universities Conference (IAMUC 2019) in Tokyo.

In addition, he developed and contributed to several masters and PhD courses within different programs at USN focusing Human Factors, Cognitive Systems Engineering and Risk Analysis theories and became the main lecturer of a few courses. Salman is an editor for CRC-press/Taylor & Francis on Human Factors books and has been a speaker in various maritime events within Training, Assessment and Human Factors.
