TARG recently hosted Prof. Tareq Ahram from the University of Central Florida, USA for one-day visit for the occasion of the 5th Workshop on Training and Assessment. He is the lead scientist and research manager working at the Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (IASE) at the University of Central Florida. He is currently working on multiple research projects including a research project funded by the United States Office of Naval Research on modelling human performance and total ownership cost. Prof. Ahram was accompanied by Prof. Christianne Falcao from UNICAP, Brazil.

Prof. Ahram delivered his talk on the topic – use of VR and AR for training and assessment. Later, he toured the campus and visited simulator research facilities at HSN. Prof. Ahram and Prof. Nazir had a fruitful discussion about possible areas for collaboration for InnoTraining, a 13M NOK project in collaboration with Kongsberg Digital AS, aimed to innovate maritime training and assessment through the use of VR and AR. Prof. Falcao shared brief details about the ongoing research at UNICAP, Brazil during the meetings.

In addition, several research calls were identified (Norwegian, American and Brazilian funding agencies) as potential opportunities of shared project applications. Prof. Ahram extended the invitation for all the participants in workshop for upcoming 8th International conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE 2017) to be held at Los Angeles, USA from 17th – 21st July 2017. The visit further cements the tie between HSN and UCF and paves the way for researchers at HSN to share international platform.
