Associate professor in product design
After finishing the officer cadet school in the Norwegian navy, Marius Imset undertook a master’s degree in product design engineering which he received in 1997. He then worked for several years with R&D and marketing in the Norwegian industry, with maritime instrumentation and interface design, mobile telecom units and subsea equipment. In 2004 he started his academic career at the University College of Southeast Norway, at the Faculty of Engineering and Maritime Sciences. Besides teaching design and innovation courses at both bachelor and master level, he has been involved in various development projects, such as cluster development of the regional maritime industry and national projects on maritime education (MARKOM2020). In 2009 he was involved in the start up and became the first leader of a new institute for maritime research at USN. During the last years he has taken up research activities focused on maritime human-technology systems, and believes strongly in the importance and value of user centered design. He is currently participating in the e-Navigation SESAME Straits project, contributing with studies of various human factor aspects of sea-shore cooperation. Marius Imset currently resides in the coastal town of Tønsberg together with his wife and three children.
